Leo, you may want them to check out my subscription data analysis software at http://www.OgonPro.com It's sweet spot is for sharing data/reports to clients, VIPs, etc outside an ogranization. It may get them close to what they need. However, it's not a "lookup" reporting engine, but more of high level aggregate analyses. Yet, you can drill down to specific line items. Of course, it can always be customized or integrated for specific needs.

I've had a few individuals interested in working together on some of these projects that require data monitoring and reporting in a web interface.

One of clients, has asked for a data monitoring/reporting system to be added to their existing control system. They make compressors for HVAC systems. The control system that I'm working on has a ControlLogix processor with Ethernet I/O, Robotic Welders, Pneumatic assembly stations, local operator interfaces of Rockwell Automation PanelViews.

This is a startup; they don't even have a network for the facility yet. So, first they want to install switches, cat 6 cabling, wi-fi, vpn, etc. Then, they want to add hardware/software to collect data from the ControlLogix system (speeds, uptime, downtime, operator id's, job numbers, number of good parts, number of bad parts, etc.). I can get the data from the ControlLogix processor into an SQL DB without much trouble. I could use assistance from the DB up. Many of my clients not only want to view these reports locally but also want to integrate them into their website to allow their end users to login, enter a serial number and get information about that part. Lots of things to consider: hardware/software selection, archival methods, security, stability, scalability to other locations, etc.

If you're interested in working on these types of projects, I suggest joining the Systems Integrators group where we can talk more about these types of solutions.

Hey Leo - I'm interested in hearing more about what you're doing. We've developed monitoring tools which run on web servers to monitor server performance, database activity and such. Sending email or text message alerts if needed. I've dabbled in control system development some in the (distant) past too.

As some of you know, my "real job" is consulting and programming industrial automation solutions for manufacturing facilities. I provide control systems for my client's processes.

Anyway, the new thing is to use web servers as the interface to the control system both for monitoring and control. I know that control thing makes some of you webcentric people a little nervous but I've done it a few times and it works great.

If you're interested in collaborating on these types of jobs, let me know and we can setup a meeting to discuss opportunities.

Thought you all might be interested in a little project I'm working on. It's a Wordpress site targeted at those of us freelancing ourselves around the Knoxville area. Let me know what you think!
